George Smiley

George Smiley is back. he returns to the movies in the very latest remake of Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy which is just about to be released to the waiting world.

We all remember the original george Smiley played by Sir Alec Guinness. How could we forget! he was just one of the fabulous characters in the original film made out of the novel of the same name by John Le Carre.

In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6′s echelons. The plot itself is pretty silly ( based on all the Kim Philby type cases but I’m thinking of the specific twists and turns of the storyline) and the pace of the action plodding along very slowly. But then, perhaps that’s appeal. In the current vogue for crash,bang,wallop adventure films, it is a refreshing alternative to have a slow thoughtful twisting plot to keep you engaged.

I do hope that the new George Smiley will be as big a successs as his renowned predecessor. Gary Oldman has a lot to live up to as the new George Smiley.
